Education & Test Prep

NIKKEE PORCARO

As founder and president of No Anxiety Prep (N.A.P), I am excited to provide a dynamic, experienced, and caring one-stop shop for high school, college, graduate school and occupational needs. N.A.P. provides premium one-on-one and small group test preparation services as well as academic and occupational counseling services, both domestically and internationally.

With over a decade of journalistic and educational experience and thousands of success stories, N.A.P. has the dedication, experience, and proven track record to help you achieve your goals in a setting that values each unique student. We aren’t a test prep factory churning out clients, disregarding their specific needs and goals; we’re a smaller company with better credentials, more empathy, and the background and training to achieve those goals.

We specialize in test preparation, essay and application assistance, academic tutoring, college counseling, and resume/cover letter services. We believe each student and job seeker has a story to tell, and our goal is to help you convey that story in a stand-out way: your way. Let us help you make some of the most important decisions of your life with the best information available.

Best of all, our tutors are experts at online tutoring (which we’ve been doing pre-pandemic for the past nine years, so we’re experts at teaching in this awesomely flexible way!)

About Nikkee

What is my typical process for working with a new client?
During an initial phone call, we learn about the individual’s past experience with tutoring, current goals, learning preferences/differences, and timeline. We then discuss the best program for the student based on baseline score, goal score, student work ethic, budget and scheduling. We strive to ensure a personalized experience for each client.

Although N.A.P. operates out of the DC area, we have worked with clients in 15 states and seven countries and am able to hold sessions via Skype, Facetime, Zoom and other online communication and videoconferencing platforms.

What credentials do I have for my specialty/specialties?
I earned a BA in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Sociology at the University of Maryland, College Park. There, I was also a graduate of the College Park Scholars Honors program and a competitive club gymnast. I tutored throughout high school and college before attaining a Master’s of Science in Education (M.S.E.) degree (graduating summa cum laude) from Purdue University Global in Language and Literacy for Secondary Grades. I am currently at Harvard University pursuing a second Master’s, this one in English, and I will graduate in the beginning of 2022 after completing my thesis on the peripatetic aesthetic in the novels of Henry James and Claire Messud.

I launched No Anxiety Prep in 2012 after a five-year stint with Kaplan. My extensive background working with special education and normally-abled students; teaching in Montgomery County and Fairfax County public schools as a long-term and short-term substitute; and tutoring students to succeed for standardized tests has allowed me to develop strong academic strategies. I train my staff in the most effective educational pedagogy, as well as how to build rapport, show empathy, and engage in flexibility with N.A.P. students.

What types of clients have I worked with?
I have worked with clients from 5th grade through adult who have been seeking admission into private secondary schools, colleges, and graduate schools, as well as helped people improve their resumes and job-seeking skills. I have worked with students of all ability levels and pride ourselves on being able to provide our clients with an expert, highly trained tutor in whatever subject they need.

Testimonials

“Just for knowing, after your session, Ella made one thing particularly clear. She LOVES working with you. Truly, to her core, loves it. So thank you for your support to her in the whole college process.” - M.K.

“Nikkee is a fabulous teacher. She is passionate, intelligent, and truly cares about each student’s score improvement. She not only helped me improve my scores, but also helped me improve my confidence. I walked into the test feeling strong, and positive. My score improved 550 points between my first test and my final score. Overall, Nikkee taught me how to confidently conquer the test and to create a positive atmosphere surrounding the SAT.” - C.M.
